About Author Oby Okpala
Oby Okpala
Author, Language Advocate, Cultural Educator
Oby Okpala is the author of the upcoming title: Ndeewo Grandma!, a delightful middle-grade book that introduces children to the Igbo language and culture through the warm relationship between a boy named Okey and his visiting grandmother. As they spend time together, Grandma shares common greetings and expressions, turning language learning into an engaging and heartfelt journey.
Passionate about preserving African languages, Oby weaves Igbo phrases naturally into everyday dialogue, offering children from ages 5 to 8 a playful and educational reading experience. Her work reinforces the importance of heritage, multilingualism and identity, especially for children growing up in the diaspora.
Through her platform, The Supu Project, Oby promotes cultural pride and language preservation. She believes that stories can be bridges that connect generations and strengthen bonds within families and communities. Her mission is to show that it is never too early to embrace one’s roots and find joy in cultural expression.
